  5. Breaking down molecules • Starches broken into glucose • Proteins into amino acids • Fats into glycerol and fatty acids • Nucleic acids into nucleotides

Hormones • Gastrin –produce digestive acids in stomach & normalizes cell growth • Secretin- produces digestive juices that neutralizes stomach acid as it enters the small intestine • CCK- produces pancreas enzymes and normal cell growth • Ghrelin- stimulates appetite • Peptide YY- inhibits appetite
