  1. Battle Profile: Second Battle of Ypres and the Somme By: Karen, Sherry, Sotheaya

  2. Who – Germans and the BEF (British Expedition Forces) and was fought by Canadian troops. What - The battle of the Ypres was between the Germans and the British and it was the first time chemical warfare was used. The casualties were about 250,000 people from both sides, many people died from the gas as well as drowning in the mud. Where – This happened in Ypres, Belgium Battle of Ypres

  3. When - The first attack was in 1914 and the second occurred in 1915 and the biggest attack was in 1917. Why – The first attack was due to the BEF attempting to control the advances of the Germans. How – The battle was fought using chlorine gases as well as rifles. Battle of Ypres Continued

  4. Who – The battle of Sommes was another battle between the British and the Germans. What – France was losing a lot in Verdun so it’s allied forces came to relieve and help them. (By attacking the Germans) When- The Battle began July 1st 1916 and ended November 1916. The Somme

  5. Where – The battle happened in Northern France in the Somme River. Why – It occurred because France was losing in the battle in Verdun so to relieve them, British soldiers arrived to fend off the Germans. How – The battle was similar to Ypres and was also fought with poisonous gas and rifles. The Somme Continued
