  2. What is United Way? • Most efficient way to strengthen health and human services in our region • Raises and allocates funds • Supports a strong network of more than 170 quality agencies • Identifies critical issues and unmet needs • Builds collaborations to meet community needs

Why United Way? • Impact: helping 1 out of every 3 people in our community • Efficient: more than 90 cents of every dollar you give goes to help people in our community • Local: the money that’s raised here, stays here, helping people in 16 Missouri and Illinois counties • Volunteer-based: your money is allocated by trained community volunteers like you • A local tradition of giving: • We’re the 18th largest market in the country – but 5thin United Way giving • Our United Way is No. 1 in African-American giving and No. 5 in women’s giving

  7. Other ways United Way helps • 2-1-1: An information and referral hotline open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call to find or give help. • Basic needs help like funding new programs during tough economic times, organizing community-wide food drives and starting a foreclosure prevention project • Community initiatives such as Education Express and individual development accounts • Mobilizing volunteers as individuals, families, community groups and companies.

  8. What your pledge provides $50 A night at the movies for a family of four or… • 25 meals delivered to home-bound seniors with disabilities • Eyeglasses for a child in need • Swim lessons for 10 children from low income families

  9. What your pledge provides $100 Large coffee every Friday for a year or… • Four hours of counseling for a victim of sexual abuse • 3 hours of treatment for a preschooler with severe developmental problems • 10 in-home visits by nurses to home-bound elderly

  10. What your pledge provides $250 Concert tickets from a ticket broker or… • A week of shelter for a battered woman and her children • Two weeks of day camp for an at risk youth • After school care for one child for six weeks

  12. Leadership Giving Gifts of $1,000 or more are recognized as a Leadership Gift. You can be a part of one or more Leadership societies with your gift.
