  16. Picket Sign Today you will be developing a picket sign. The picket sign will help you build your argument for the persuasive essay that you are going to write. You will have to include all of the information we’ve been talking about in your writing. You must follow all of the steps in the picket sign to make sure that you the information you have included is correct. This is a project grade, and you must do your very best work. Use your time wisely. Be creative.

  18. Warm Up In many ways, wearing uniforms can be beneficial for students. Students will remain focused on education instead of appearance if they were required to wear a standard uniform daily. 68% of students at Bilmore Middle School reported being teased because of what they had on in school. Many students even reported that they bought a certain brand of shoes because everyone else wanted them. Are you serious? Since when has it become cool to be a follower? Parents must do better in raising children who resist such negative pressures. Some students may say that wearing uniforms does not allow them to express themselves creatively; however, I would advise those students to hear the cries of my fellow classmates who are bullied everyday because their parents can’t afford the latest trends. Are you more concerned about being cool or about being focused, smart, and successful?

  20. Warm Up Violent music has negative effects and deadly consequences on teenagers today. Teens are exposed entirely too soon to subjects such as drugs, violence, and offensive language. Do you hear all of the ways that rappers and rock stars refer to women? Would you allow someone to speak to your mother that way? Studies show that teens who listen to inappropriate music are much more likely to imitate the things that they hear in the songs. How tremendously sad is it that students today idolize and look up to people who care nothing about the impression they have on innocent children. For example, even rapper 2 Chainz admit that his music is not for teens. He says “it is not my responsibility to raise your children. I can only raise mine, and they don’t listen to my music.” Although teens suggest that they listen to such music for pure entertainment, but it is not entertaining at all to smoke, drink, or curse when you can do so much more with your life. There is a need for parents to step up and monitor what their kids play, watch, and listen to before it is too late. What will you make of your life?

The completed graphic organizer will tell you what should be included on the outline. Complete the outline based on the topic that you’ve chosen to do your essay on. Use your picket sign to help you complete the handout.
