  1. MC ’04-’05 objectives

  2. MC ’04-’05 production test proposal • Get the ball rolling! • Platform for testing items nominally done or near completion • Additional items to inserted in a second production test • Features: • 100 pb–1 of 2004-2005 all_phys card at LSF = 0.2 • Standard scripts and offline machinery • Results written to tape library • MCDST's produced. • Delete files after study to make way for 2nd test or real production • Timescale: 01-Sep-05 • Built-in realism regarding August: treat this as firm deadline

  3. Items for production test: Summary

  4. MC work 1/9: Geometry and IR • Simulation of new IR • Geometry added to MC, new card IRTY added (CB) • Status: Ready for production test • New card to specify beam-crossing angle • Add BCAN card (TS) to GEANFI • Official production: Angle calculated from HepDB values • Private production: No way to specify (fixed at 0.0125 rad) • Status: Not necessary for production test • Good idea to add ASAP for individual users

  5. MC work 2/9: EmC energy response • Attenuation lengths in endcap modules • Short/central modules have different attenuation lengths; these were reversed in MC • Status: Simulation fixed (CB), ready for production test • Calorimeter energy scale calibration: • Disable extra y-dependent attenuation factor for endcaps in CLUADJUST module • Need further studies: y-dependence of endcap response, overall energy scale • Status: Futher work requires following items: • Fix attenutation lengths, extra factor in CLUADJUST • SQZ fixed so MCEL cluster energies can be re-read • Can results of a production test be used for further tuning?

  6. MC work 3/9: EmC clusters • EmC time resolution • Common smearing in simulation (140 ps) zeroed (CB, done) • Add common smearing at T0_SMEAR level (MM) • Add cluster smearing in EMCSIMUADJ or other module (MM) • Status: Above items need to be completed. • Testing requires a few pb–1f  p+p-p0 (CG) • Can be done with output from production test? • Cluster efficiency • New parameters for cluster efficiency curves to be put into EMCSIMUADJ and tested (MP, TS) • Status: Parameters exist, need to be inserted • Would be nice to have for production test

  7. MC work 4/9: Generators • f  p+p-p0 generator • FN has a new generator that uses the matrix-element approach. • GEANFI interface not yet done, critical for testing. • Need to add sQED FSR amplitudes. • Status: Needs work, probably not needed for first production test • Secondary generators • KS p+p-e+e- generator (CG) added (CB) with BR = 4.7 × 10–5 • p0 e+e- decay generator added with BR = 6 × 10–6 (CB) • pen decay generator added with BR = 1.23 × 10–4 (CB) • Status: Above items can be looked at in production test • Probably require dedicated testing as well • KS p0e+e- generator (FB, VP) still needs to be interfaced

  8. MC work 5/9: Nuclear interactions • GEANFI nuclear interactions/regeneration code • Original CASK0 code restored as CASK0C, except that regeneration is disabled (CB) • CASK0B is called for interactions in calorimeter • CASK0C is called elsewhere (e.g., DC walls and beam pipe, where regeneration is handled separately) • Status: Testing requires several 10's of pb–1 • Can probably be handled in production test • Do we plan any work for charged kaons?

  9. MC work 6/9: Trigger • Comprehensive data-quality control for trigger • Done up to run 36904 (MP, BS) • Bad runs flagged and/or reconstructed files deleted (MM, BS) • Other work on trigger • Simulation of time smearing in high-jitter/bad RF period • Adjustment of DC threshold simulation • DISH maps • Status: Nice to incorporate any/all of above in production test.

  10. MC work 7/9: DC response • DC tracking resolution: s-t relations • Various volunteers: AA, PDS, MM, TS • Status: No work on solution underway yet • DC tracking resolution: multiple scattering off DC wires • SK interested in working on this problem • Status: Studies beginning, will not condition production test • Correlated noise in DC for charged kaons • Volunteers: EDL, PDS + charged kaon group • Status: No work on solution underway yet • Simulation of dE/dx response • Status: VP has A_C module ready, can incorporate in test?

  11. MC work 8/9: Background • LSB insertion code • Code exists, tested standalone (MM) • Work on scripting to be done (MM) • Status: Necessary for production test • Fixes to CELE structure • Need to add a new field to CELE structure with original CELE index into bank. • Need to modify FILLCSPSMC_CEKA to use this index (MM) Status: Necessary for production test

  12. MC work 9/9: Technical issues • SQZ library • Packing parameters different in GEANFI and KBK modules • Certain MC truth values wrongly scaled or offset on re-reading • MCEL energies (scale ×5) • Particle TOF (e.g., K+) (offset +100 ns) • Unclear why a problem (packing parameters stored in I-banks) • Workaround module FIXIS exists (MM) • Status: Necessary for production test

  13. Items for production test: Reprise
