  2. Objectives/Goals Thechildrenwillbeenabled to… • Recognisethattheworldresources are notdividedequallyamongnations • Discusscriticallythefoodandotherresourcesthatthey (as partof a certainsociety) consume andtheimpactthatthishas for the global community

  3. Organisation • Thechildren are splitintounequalgroups, e.g. of 4, 6, 8 and 12 • Eachgroupisgiven a certainnumberofsheetsonwhichthereis a pictureof a footprint. • Some ofthesheetsofpaper are inplastic (laminated)

  4. Whathappens?... • Thegroupsofchildrenlineupbehind a lineononesideoftheclassroomorplayground etc. • Theywillhave to use thefootprints to gettheirgroup to theothersideoftheclassroomwheretherewillbe a secondline. • Thechildrenmayonlywalkonthesheetsandiftheyfall off thefootprint(evenonestep) theirwholegroupwillhave to startagain.

  5. TheChallenge…. • Thefootprints are divided UNEQUALLY amongthegroups. • E.g.thegroupwith 12 willonlyhave 3 sheets, whilethegroupwithonly 4 peoplewillhave 10 sheets. • THEREFORE… • For some itisreally EASY to crosstheroom • For othersitisalmost IMPOSSIBLE!

  6. Afterthechildrenhavetriedthistaskandexperiencedthedifficultiestheywill stop anddiscusshowtheymightchangetheirapproachsothatthewholeclasscanmakeitacrosstheroom • Theytesttheirideas • Afterwardstheydiscusshowtheactivityhasgoneandtheobservationstheyhavemade

  7. NB: Itisup to thestudents to maketheconnectionbetweenthisactivityandthedivisionofworldresources
