  2. Pakistani-Canadian columnist Tarek Fatah passed away on Monday after a prolonged battle with Cancer, his daughter Natasha Fatah, who herself is a journalist, confirmed the news. "Lion of Punjab. Son of Hindustan. Lover of Canada. Speaker of truth. Fighter for justice. Voice of the down-trodden, underdogs, and the oppressed. Tarek Fatah has passed the baton on... his revolution will continue with all who knew and loved him. Tarek Fatah is a Pakistani-Canadian journalist, writer, and activist who is known for his outspoken views on a range of political and social issues. Born in 1949 in Karachi, Pakistan, Fatah began his career as a journalist in his home country, working for several prominent newspapers and magazines. In 1987, he immigrated to Canada, where he continued his work as a journalist and became increasingly involved in political activism. Tarek Fatah's journalism career in Pakistan spanned more than a decade, during which he worked for several major newspapers, including The Nation, Dawn, and The News International. He also contributed to a number of international publications, including The New York Times and The Guardian. In the late 1970s, Fatah was briefly imprisoned by the Pakistani government for his coverage of the country's political situation. After immigrating to Canada in 1987, Fatah continued his journalism work, contributing to several Canadian and international publications. He also became increasingly involved in political activism, advocating for a range of causes, including secularism, human rights, and the rights of religious minorities. In 2006, Fatah founded the Muslim Canadian Congress, a secular organization that advocates for the separation of religion and state, as well as for the rights of Muslim women and other marginalized groups within the Muslim community. He has been a vocal critic of Islamism and has spoken out against the use of sharia law in Canada. Fatah's activism and journalism work have often been controversial, with some accusing him of being anti-Muslim or Islamophobic. Fatah has rejected these accusations, arguing that he is critical of the ideology of Islamism, not of Muslims as a group. He has also been critical of left-wing politics, arguing that the left has failed to sufficiently confront the threat posed by Islamist extremism.

  3. Tarek Fatah has written several books, including "Chasing a Mirage: The Tragic Illusion of an Islamic State," which was published in 2008. The book argues that the idea of an Islamic state is a misguided and dangerous one, and that it has led to violence and oppression in many parts of the world. In recent years, Fatah has continued to be a prominent voice in Canadian and international politics, advocating for secularism, human rights, and freedom of speech. He has also been critical of the Canadian government's response to Islamist extremism, arguing that it has been too weak and that more needs to be done to address the problem. Despite his controversial views, Fatah has won praise from many quarters for his courage and commitment to free speech and human rights. He has been the recipient of several awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. In conclusion, Tarek Fatah is a Pakistani-Canadian journalist, writer, and activist who has made a significant impact on Canadian and international politics. His outspoken views on a range of issues, including secularism, human rights, and the threat posed by Islamist extremism, have often been controversial, but he has remained committed to his principles and to the defense of free speech and human rights.
