  2. What is figurative language? • Figurative Language is word or phrase that departs from everyday literal language for the sake of comparison, emphasis, clarity, or freshness.

  3. What are some types of figurative language? • Simile • Metaphor

  4. What is a simile? • A simile is a comparison between two unlike things using the words like, as, than, or resembles. • Ex: Her eyes are as blue as the sky.

  5. What is a metaphor? • A metaphor is a comparison of two unlike things by saying one thing IS something else. • Ex: The classroom was an oven.

  6. Practice: • The sand was little needles pricking my feet when I walked along the beach. • Metaphor: the sand WAS little needles.

  7. Practice: • The runner was as fast as a hare when he crossed the finish line. • Simile: the runner was AS fast AS a hare.

  8. Creativity Practice: • Create a simile about school or an eagle. • Create a metaphor about trees or a shark.
