Islam. A believer of Islam is a Muslim . The religion was founded by Mohammed. A believer of Islam is forbidden to eat pork , worship idols, drink alcohol , or gamble. Muslims worship in a mosque. The minaret is like a tower used to call the people to prayers.

  2. A believer of Islam is a Muslim. The religion was founded by Mohammed. • A believer of Islam is forbidden to eat pork, worship idols, drink alcohol, or gamble.

  3. Muslims worship in a mosque. • The minaret is like a tower used to call the people to prayers.

  4. There are two major divisions: • Sunni-most Muslims are members of this branch of Islam. A caliph is there leader. (Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt) • Shiite- more fundamental, more emotional leader They believed Ali, the prophet's son-in-law and cousin should have been caliph. (Iran)

  5. Five Pillars of Islam (Faith) There is only one God (Allah) and Mohammed is his prophet. Fast during daylight hours of religious holidays. Ramadan lasts about one month (date changes yearly) Each Muslim must make a (trip) pilgrimage to Mecca sometime in their life. Pray 5 times daily facing the Holy City of Mecca. Give money (alms) to the poor.
