Spent & Approved War Spending - About $800 billion of US taxpayers' funds spent or approved for spending through mid-2009, including $76 billion requested by President Obama and approved by Congress. • Lost & Unaccounted for in Iraq - $9 billion of US taxpayers' money and $549.7 million in spare parts shipped in 2004 to US contractors.

  4. Taxpayers in New York will pay $925.3 million for proposed ballistic missile defense in FY2010. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided: • 170,645 People with Health Care for One Year • 1,732,424 Homes with Renewable Electricity for One Year • 17,859 Public Safety Officers for One year • 14,092 Music and Arts Teachers for One Year • 151,001 Scholarships for University Students for One Year • 172,960 Students receiving Pell Grants of $5350 • 5,260 Affordable Housing Units • 323,356 Children with Health Care for One Year • 105,427 Head Start Places for Children for One Year • 10,718 Elementary School Teachers for One Year • 13,907 Port Container Inspectors for One year

  5. Taxpayers in Schenectady County, New York will pay $6.9 million for proposed ballistic missile defense in FY2010. For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided: • 1,268 People with Health Care for One Year • 12,870 Homes with Renewable Electricity for One Year • 133 Public Safety Officers for One year • 105 Music and Arts Teachers for One Year • 1,122 Scholarships for University Students for One Year • 1,285 Students receiving Pell Grants of $5350 • 39 Affordable Housing Units • 2,402 Children with Health Care for One Year • 783 Head Start Places for Children for One Year • 80 Elementary School Teachers for One Year • 103 Port Container Inspectors for One year

For the same amount of money, the following could have been provided: • 5,221 People with Health Care for One Year • 53,009 Homes with Renewable Electricity for One Year • 546 Public Safety Officers for One year • 431 Music and Arts Teachers for One Year • 4,620 Scholarships for University Students for One Year • 5,292 Students receiving Pell Grants of $5350 • 161 Affordable Housing Units • 9,894 Children with Health Care for One Year • 3,226 Head Start Places for Children for One Year • 328 Elementary School Teachers for One Year • 426 Port Container Inspectors for One year

  7. Cost of deploying one U.S. soldier for one year in Iraq - $390,000 • US Troops Wounded - 31,529 through September 30, 2009, 20% of which are serious brain or spinal injuries. (Total excludes psychological injuries.) • US Troops with Serious Mental Health Problems - 30% of US troops develop serious mental health problems within 3 to 4 months of returning home • Non-U.S. Troop Casualties - Total 316, with 179 from the UK
