  2. Simile using like or as to compare 2 things. Ex. You are dumb as a rock.

  3. Metaphor A metaphor is comparing 2 things without using like or as something is something else. Ex. My house is a pig’s sty.

  4. Hyperbloe A hyperbole is using exaggeration to make a point. Ex. You stink so bad birds fall out of the sky.

  5. Onomatopoeia sound word Example: I can hear the gun bang a mile away.

  6. Idiom A well known expression that does not mean what it says Example: You are still as a rock.

  7. Alliteration Repetition of beginning sounds Example: I ate like a pig last night.

  8. Personification giving human qualities to something not human Examples: My cat can use the toilet.

  9. Practice Problems 1. I’m as big as a barn. 2. You ate so much I could throw up. 3. You’re head is hard as a rock. 4. My dog can drive a car. 5. the car tires made a big bang. 6. You’re so ugly you make babies cry. 7.You’re house is a rat’s nest.
