  2. Mission The mission of the Air Force Junior ROTC program is to develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.

Benefits of AFJROTC • Provides a place to belong • Cadets earn PE or elective credit • Cadets learn life skills of self-discipline, responsibility, character and leadership • Early advancement if later joining the military (up to E-3 out of basic training) • JROTC cadets earn College Credit for senior ROTC • JROTC cadets have better chance of earning a service academy appointment or ROTC scholarship

ROTC I Curriculum (2011-12) • 40% Leadership Education • Taught primarily by MSgt Amos on Monday & Wednesday • Text – “Leadership, Character & Air Force Tradition” • 40% Aerospace Science • Taught primarily by Col Jones on Tuesday & Thursday • Text – “A Journey Into Aviation History” • 20% Health & Wellness / Physical Training on Friday • Drill & Ceremonies taught on occasion

  6. ROTC II, III & IV Curriculum (2011-12) • 40% Leadership Education • Taught primarily by MSgt Amos on Tuesday & Thursday • Text – “Life Skills and Career Opportunities” • 40% Aerospace Science • Taught primarily by Col Jones on Monday & Wednesday • Text – “Cultural Studies: An Introduction to Global Awareness” • 20% Health & Wellness / Physical Training – Friday • Drill & Ceremonies taught on occasion

  7. Grades • Major Grades (75%) • Uniform Grade every Wednesday (begins 8/31 with polo shirt) • Must wear uniform all day to receive grade • 50% uniform, 30% grooming and 20% bearing / attitude • Uniform combinations include: service dress, short-sleeve shirt, ABUs and maroon polo shirt • Tests • Administered on 2nd and 5th Friday of each six-week period • Usually 50% Leadership Education and 50% Aerospace Science • Tests on drill and basic ROTC knowledge on occasion • Minor Grades (25%) – physical fitness participation grade and other occasional grades

  8. Make-up Grades and Retakes • All make-up grades and retests must be accomplished within the applicable six-week grading period • Uniform Grades • When absent, must wear uniform before the next uniform day for full credit • Cadets who miss a uniform day may make it up for a maximum grade of 70 and this must be accomplished before the next uniform day • Test Grades • When absent, cadets have one day per day absent to make–up test for full credit • May retake a test (after tutorial session) for maximum grade of 70

Major AFJROTC Events • August 23 Parent Meeting – WHS Auditorium • September 2 Passbook sales begin • September 16 Corps-a-thon: ABU Fundraiser • September 24 Denton Ryan Drill Competition (Comp) • September 26 Homecoming Parade • October 8 Keller ISD Drill Comp • October 14 March-on at WHS / WEHS football game • October 29 Randolph AFB Open House • Oct or Nov Headquarters Triennial Inspection • November 11 Veterans Day Pass and Review

Drill Competition • Practice Monday thru Thursday beginning Monday, 8/29 • Roll Call: 4:25 pm • Practice: 4:30 – 5:30 pm • Must attend at least 75% of practice sessions within 1 month of competition to compete • Must compete in at least 2 and no more than 4 events • Drill Comps • September 24 Denton Ryan • October 8 Keller ISD • 2-3 comps during Spring Semester

  11. Activity and Service Events • Color Guard (about 50-70 events annually) • Chain Runners (48 events) – every Tuesday and Thursday evening during football season • Concessions at Shaffer Stadium (32 events) – every Tuesday and Thursday evening during football season plus additional events during soccer season • Spirit Team (10-20 events) – every varsity football game plus some events in the Spring • Ushers (5 events) – every varsity home football game • Campus Clean-up (about once each month) • Food drives and other miscellaneous service events

  12. Cadet Rank and Promotion • Promotions based on participation and performance • Starting Rank (no position) • Eligible for promotion twice each year • 1st Year – Cadet Airman Basic • 2nd Year – Cadet Airman First Class • 3rd Year – Cadet Senior Airman • 4th Year – Cadet Staff Sergeant • Positions by Appointment • Eligible for promotion once each year • Rank of Cadet Staff Sergeant thru Cadet Lieutenant Colonel • Rank based on position and years in JROTC

Other Topics • Letter Jacket Criteria (major revisions) • Cadets earning letter jacket under old cumulative criteria will receive jacket early next year • New criteria awards letter jackets / letters annually in May • Fundraisers • Passbook sales begins September 2 • ABU Corps-a-thon – September 16 • Booster Club • Meets second Monday of each month • Provides money/food/assistance at many AFJROTC events • Complete form to be an official sponsor
