  3. How is the product used in the United States? • Sugar is used sweets and coffee • Adding sugar to a flower vase w/water nourishes the stem • Sugar crystals can be used to scrub away oil or grease. • Sugar in liquid form can act as a wasp trap

  4. Environmental Consequences • Release of carbon dioxide into air • Its expensive, shipped to America; then shipped back to the country • Sugar cane only grows in tropical lands and that’s where most of our different types of species reside so in order for us to grow sugar we need to clear out all there natural habitat.

  5. Cultural Consequences • They need labor; so they bring people to extract the sugar. • They need continuously fertilize they ground • Since the sugar is only grown in tropical areas; the ground that was plowed and fertilized, once it rains all the dirt; and the toxins that’s within it is drained right into the main water stream. This affects the peoples drinking water.

  6. The Industry’s Thought? • The industry continues to indorse sugar b/c it is a big money maker • They pay big money on keeping quiet onhealth and other risks of consuming sugar. • They believe that the cost of cutting down sugar isn’t as much as they are taking home. (making more money)

  7. Groups thought • We feel that sugar does not have to be bleached • If everyone would use natural brown sugar it would cut down cost of having it shipped and bleached in America then sent back to its country. • People can cut down on the use of sugar by using other natural sweeteners such as honey. • They cant have a designated area in which they plan the sugar cane instead of destroying new land to do so.
