Vocabulary • Treaty: An official agreement between countries • Peace agreement: A treaty that officially ends a war • Reparations: Paying money to make amends and repair damages to those who have been wronged • Financial Burden: The responsibility of paying a large amount of money • Debt: money that is owed to someone else

  4. Vocabulary • Army: Military equipped for fighting on land • Navy: Military equipped for fighting at sea • Air force: Military equipped for fighting in the air • Colonies: Territories under the political control of a foreign power (imperialism)

  5. Vocabulary • Harsh: cruel, severe, unpleasant • Humiliation: injuring the dignity or self-respect of another • Blame: assign responsibility or fault for a wrongdoing • Bitterness: Anger at being treated unfairly
