Salient features of the Mid Day Meal Scheme in schools • Mid day meal scheme extended from Pre-primary to Senior Secondary Level under State Share and Primary to Upper Primary under Central Share. • Hot Cooked meal is served to all school going children • MDM scheme is implemented through District Panchayat • Food items are procured from the Co-operative societies on credit basis. • Panchayatmemebers, SMC/MPTA over see the scheme in each island. • Constituted U.T Level/District Level/Island level Steering cum Monitoring Committees. • Under School Health Programme: De-worming and iron & folic acid tablets distributed by teachers with guidance of Health Department staff.

Performance of National Programme of MDMS 2017-18 • Monthly Data entry completed up to March 2018. • Automated Monitoring System (AMS) implemented w.e.f July 2016. • State/UT level Steering Cum Monitoring Committee Meeting on MDM held • on 15.12.2017 and 15.2.2018. • District Task Force Meeting on MDM held on 15.12.2017 and 15.2.2018. • Installed Toll Free Number 1800-425-2344 to receive grievances. • 66 regular cooks were trained from FCI, Kochi during 2017-18.

Performance of National Programme of MDMS 2017-18 • Swachh Vidhyala programme conducted in all school in the first Friday of • the month in addition to normal cleaning programme to keep surrounding • environment clean and hygienic. • Established Kitchen garden in 4 schools and remaining schools will be • covered in 2018-19.

New initiative under Mid Day Meal Programme 2018-19 • Establishment of Green Kitchen • (The Honorable Prime Minister of India in his visit to Lakshadweep during 19th December 2017 expressed that LPG is not a suitable means of cooking in the islands considering risk of transportation and desired to explore the possibilities of introducing solar cooking system in islands. M/s NTPC Ltd has agreed for installation and other associated work for Solar Thermal Cooking System at Govt. Girls Sr.Sec.School at Kavaratti as sustainable development activity for the year 2018-19 and also allocated SD Budget of Rs.100.00 lakhs for the year 2018-19)
