University of Illinois at Chicago • Started as University of Illinois at Chicago Circle (UICC) in 1965 • Merged with UI Medical Center in 1982 to become University of Illinois at Chicago • UIC is part of University of Illinois System Chicago Urbana-Champaign Springfield • UIC currently ranks among the nation's top 50 universities in federal research funding with $342 million in research funding • UIC is Chicago's largest university with 27,309 students, 13,189 faculty and staff, 16 colleges • Has the state's major public medical center • Known for its diverse student population • Mission is “Access to Excellence”
