Maury River Drinking Quality Information • Your drinking water is commonly obtained from the surface of the Maury River. • Purified by the water treatment plant located off U.S. Route 60 West. • Process is composed of chemical addition, rapid mixing, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, chlorination, corrosion control, and fluoridation.

  3. Source Water Assessments • According to the Maury Service Authority, the Maury River may be susceptible to contamination. • Hydrologic, hydraulic, and atmospheric conditions promote contamination from land use activities.

  4. 2011 Annual Drinking Water Quality Reports There was not a single violation for the 2011 year, which means we were in full compliance!

  5. Maury River Alliance • Used to be a group made up of Washington and Lee and VMI school body members. • Monitored the Maury River to help find hotspots. • Used benthic macro-invertebrates for research because they are good indicators of watershed health.
