  5. The Allies Three major Allies are listed below: United States British France

  6. The War Begins • The Axis; Germany, Japan, and Italy began invading other countries • On September 1, 1939 Hitler sent troops to invade Poland • French and Britain declared war on Germany in September 3, 1939 • French and Britain were unable to stop Germany from taking over other countries

  7. Japanese Attack • Japan invaded Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos, back then it was known as Indochina • On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes strikes Pearl Harbor • They dropped bombs on American ships • Japan destroyed most the naval base

  8. United States at War • United States declared war on Japan on December 8, 1941 • U.S. plane dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan in August 6, 1945 • Later on August 9, U.S. dropped another atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan • Japan surrendered after the devastating bombs

  9. Enormous Invasion • The Allies invade Europe • German forces surrendered • The Axis leaders were either killed or committed suicide • Adolf Hitler committed suicide

  10. World War II Ends • World War II was considered the most devastating war in the history • Between 40 and 60 million people died • Millions were left homeless
