  1. UMN MRSEC Native American Fellows Program Getting Results Timothy P. Lodge, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, DMR 0819885 Native Americans are particularly underrepresented in Science and Engineering disciplines, representing less than 1% of degrees earned. The Native American Fellows program of the University of Minnesota MRSEC was designed to offer research experiences for promising undergraduates from tribal colleges in the Midwest. 2009 participant Aaron Besaw’s work on Amorphous and Polycrystalline Thin-Films resulted in Aaron becoming the first Native American Fellow to have his work published. Aaron came to us from the College of Menominee Nation and is now majoring in Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. L.R. Wienkes, A. Besaw, D.C. Bobela, P. Stradins, C. Anderson, U.
