Students will identify and demonstrate on instruments: CONCEPTS: -Parts and Care -Notes: Open strings (reading D,A and rote for all strings) -Meter: 4/4 -Rhythms: reading: quarter notes, rests only, rote: quarter, eighth, half -Theory: bar lines, staff, repeat sign, clef, double bar, alphabet cycle -Essential Elements Interactive free online resource for students PROPER TECHNIQUE (separate hands first): -Guitar, knee and play position on shoulders (5 steps, in and out for cello/bass), -posture, feet -Pizzicato, pencil bow hold to earn real bow -Lift and set fingers on fingerboard tapes to change notes MUSIC: -EE book #1-9 -Reading basic symbols from pp. 4 & 5 (double bar, repeat, quarter notes and rests, counting beats, staff, clef, time signature) ACTIVITIES -Sing D scale notes for “Where is the scroll?” parts ID song for bow and instrument -Uncasing, 5 steps, parking lot, snap fingers to stand (feet ready Hot Seat game), ready position to play position and back, angle of chair to stand, echoes with teacher and other students, partner help -Instrument parts written test (answer choices on board) -Bow exercises, echoes, “knee to D” 10 times with fingers staying in place, rests between note changes with all rote music when adding bow (“Mississippi Stop Stop, wait, wait, ready, go”) -MSS Circle of Strings rote / call and response D and A string rhythms, chains from student to student -Interactive Resource online (using class screen) for instructional videos, musical accompaniments Fifth Grade Orchestra Objectives First Six Weeks

Fifth Grade Orchestra Objectives Second Six Weeks Students will identify and demonstrate on instruments: CONCEPTS: -Parts and Care (continued) -Notes: Open strings (reading D,A and rote for all strings), D String Notes (with and without music) -Meter: 4/4 -Rhythms: reading: quarter notes, rests only, rote: quarter, eighth, half -Theory: bar lines, staff, repeat sign, clef, double bar, alphabet cycle (forwards and backwards) PROPER TECHNIQUE (separate hands first): -Guitar, knee and play position on shoulders (5 steps, in and out for c/b) -Posture, feet -Pizzicato and arco (with and without bow) -Lift and set fingers on fingerboard tapes to change notes with soft thumbs on pillow (vln, vla: straight wrist, “V” / cello, bass (elbow straight out) MUSIC: -EE book #s: 10-36 notes on D String / Review #1-9 (add arco) -Holiday Tunes: #20, 36, 41, plus Jolly Old St. Nick sheet music for the concert -Rote: Open Strings var. A rhythm on all strings, Monkey Song, Hot Crossed Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle var. Sing 2. Pizzicato 3.
