  2. Topic: Computer Applications in BusinessDate: Presented by: R. Maheswari, M.Com., M.Phil., Assistant Professor.

  3. Computer fundamental • Today’s world is an information rich world and it has become a necessity for every one to know about the computers. • A computer is an electronic data processing device which accepts and stores data input processes the data inputs and generates the output in a required format. • Computer is electronic device. It is use to calculate and manipulate data. If we give any instruction to the computer it gives us output(result)

  4. Full form of computer. C - Commonly O - Operating M - Machine P - Particularly U - Used for T - Technical E - Educational R - Research

  5. What is computer? • The word computer comes from the word ‘compute’ , which means “to calculate”. • There by a computer is an electronic device that can perform Arithmetic operations as well as logical at high speed. • A computer is also called as processor because it can store process and retrived date when ever desired.

  6. Father of computer • Charles babbage, British mathematics professor regarded as the father of computer. • he was born in England in 1792 as the son of a rich banker. • he began to design a difference engine in 1821. • It was very complicated machine for doing calculations automatically. • His machine was too ahead of the time of development.

  7. Continues He began design of another machine “the analytical machine” which could carry out many different types of calculations. Lack of better technology Babbage could not complete their work and passed away in 1871 before the had completed. He introduced the concept of block diagram which we are using now.

  8. Block diagram of computer

  9. Generation of computer.

  10. Types of computer

  11. Characteristics of computer • Speed. • Storage • Versatility • Diligence • Automation • Accuracy

  12. Functionalities of a computer. • If we look at it in a very broad sense, any digital computer carries out the following the functions • Step 1 - Takes data as input • Step 2 – stores the data\ instructions in its memory and uses them as required. • Step 3 – processes the data ad converts is into useful information. • Step 4 - generates the output. • Step 5 -controls all the above four steps computer

  13. TYPES OF DEVICES

  14. Inputs devices • It is an electromechanical device that can be used to enter data and instructions to the computer

  15. Output devices • Output devices are used to receive information from the computer either in softcopy or hard copy.

  16. Hardware and software • Hardware  hardware refers to the physical part of the computer hardware are the parts of computer itself, including the central processing unit(CPU), memory, keyboard, monitors, case and drives. Other extra parts called as peripheral components or devices include printers, modems scanners, digital cameras, and card(sound, color, and video etc)

  17. Software  Software refers to the computer programs.  Theses programs are used to run and control the hard ware.  Programs are also called as software.  These programming instruction cause the computer to perform arithmetic and logical operation or comparisons. For example: All user programs and program supplied by software agencies.

  18. Relationship between hardware &software • Relationship between hardware & software.  To use a computer we must have both hardware and software. Software is to a hardware as what fuel is to a motor car. Hardware without a software is powerless Software without hardware is useless.

  19. Advantages of computer. Following are certain advantages of computer. High speed. Computer is a very fast device. It is capable for performing calculation of very large amount of data. The computer has units of speed in microsecond, nanoseconds and even the picosecond

  20. Accuracy In addition to being very fast computers are very accuracy. The calculate are 100% error free. Diligence It can work continuously without an error and boredom. It can perform repeated task with the same speed accuracy.

  21. Automation  Computer is an automatic machine.  The ability of the computers to automatically do the given work us called automation. Versatility Computer is a versatile tools.  It means that we can use the computers for business, scientific or any other applications. A computer does a lot of wonderful works with its basic capabilities like arithmetic logical comparisons move date hence we call it a versatile tool.

  22. Disadvantages of computers No I.Q a computer is a machine that has no intelligence to perform any task each instruction has to be given to the computer. a computer cannot take any decision on its own. Dependency it functions as per the user’s instruction thus it is fully dependent on humans.

  23. Environment The operating environment of the computer should be dust free and suitable. no feeling  Computers has no feeling or emotions.  It cannot make judgment based on feeling, taste, experience and knowledge unlike humans
