  2. Oasis Club Bedforview About Oasis Toastmasters Club: At Oasis you’ll learn to plan and present a terrific speech, whether you have 10 days to prepare – or just a few seconds. Our environment is friendly, comfortable and supportive, and we’re all here for the same reason you are, to become better communicators. The cost of joining Oasis is R510 per 6-month period. These are payable in April and October, and pro rata fees are paid in other months. There is also an initial “life membership” fee that goes to Toastmasters International, of R250. What is Toastmasters? Toastmasters are a world-wide adult education organisation, dedicated to helping its members to improve their communication, leadership and m anagement skills. In so doing, members’ self-confidence increases. How do we achieve this? Practice and Participation! There are 32 manuals/courses available through the organisation, ranging from the basic “CC” (Competent Communicator) manual, which every member works through, to “Speaker to Trainer”. Active participation is the only way to grow and improve your skills and confidence. Throughout Toastmasters you will be evaluated (receive constructive criticism) formally or informally, by peers. The reason simply is that if people don’t know what they’re doing right and wrong, how will they ever grow. Evaluation is one of the cornerstones of Toastmasters. Participation does not only mean doing prepared speeches. To derive the full benefit of Toastmasters, you are encouraged to fulfil the roles of the different officers at meetings, enabling you to enjoy the full benefit of Toastmasters.
