  6. Southwest Metal Products Ltd. • Cold Forging Advantages • Net and near-net parts – reduce or eliminate machining • Reduces raw material waste – No Flash! • Low scrap rates and -0- PPM rejections • Tight tolerances with forged centers if required. • Excellent surface finish – No scale! • Mainly use turned and polished bar – no decarb or surface imperfections. • Improved physical properties by refining grain structure • Forged in centers can eliminate end mill and center operations • Average press uptime is over 94% Consistency by Design

  7. Southwest Metal Products Ltd. • Capabilities • Part sizes: Up to 4 inches outside diameter, up to 16 inches in length maximum • Length depends on press size, the 800 ton presses are limited to 10 inches. • Specialize in extruded shafts • Length tolerances +/- .5mm (+/- .02”) • Diameter tolerances +/- .25mm (+/- .01”) • Stock allowance = .25mm or less! (.01”) • CPK tracking critical dimensions on random parts = 7.21 • Volumes from 5,000 per year minimum, up to 750,000 per year, higher if required. • Carbon and alloy steel Consistency by Design

  8. Southwest Metal Products Ltd. • Material Grades for Cold Forging • Material grades include the following SAE series: • 1000 • 1300 • 1500 • 4000 • 4100 • 4700 • 5100 • 8600 Consistency by Design

  9. Southwest Metal Products Ltd. • Typical applications • Axles • Bits • Camshafts • Gears - all kinds - Drive, Idler, Pinion etc………… • Gearshift Levers • Pins - all kinds - Bracket, Brake, Lock Jaw, Slider, Pivot etc………… • Shafts - all kinds - Actuator, Armature, Axle, CVT, Drive, Flange, Input, Intermediate, Output, Stub, Turbine, Tube Shafts etc………… • Sleeves • Wheel Spindles Consistency by Design

  11. Southwest Metal Products Ltd. • Additional Information • Quotes within hours, maximum three days • All quotes include customs prepaid. All quotes are in U.S. dollars • Samples in 10-12 weeks after receipt of order • 1st production order 6-8 weeks after sample approval • Tool costs are minimal, typically $1,500 to $5,000 maximum, one time only! • Kanban, JIT and other shipping programs available. We will tailor a program to meet your needs • All tooling is produced locally at our sister company Sharp Edge Tool Ltd. • Remember • Cold forgings when compared to bar stock have a higher yield and are stronger. Compared to hot upset forgings have closer tolerances, less machine stock, finer surface finish, no scale, and zero -0- draft (none). Part to part uniformity and dimensional repeatability afford trouble free processing. Consistency by Design
