Simile Simile-using like or as to compare 2 things Example- My dog is as big as a horse.
Metaphor Metaphor-comparing 2 things without using like or as; something is something else Example- He is a drifter, working wherever he can find work.
Hyperbole Hyperbole- using exaggeration to make a point Example- The man can run so fast he is able to run across the Pacific Ocean in 5 minutes.
Onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia-sound word Examples- I went outside and a frog went “Ribbit!”
Alliteration Alliteration- repetition of the beginning sound Example- Lilian licked a lollipop.
Personification Personification- giving human qualities to something not human Example- While the rain drops danced to the ground happily, the trees groaned in the wind.
Idiom Idiom-a well known expression that does not mean what it says. Example- Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
She is busy as a beaver. • The dog barks loudly. • Courtney , Caroline, and Carly are friends. • The moon smiled in the darkness. • My brother is a pig when he is hungry. • He stinks so bad when he walks by me, my eyes water. • Melanie is as cute as a lady bug.
