  1. DRILL • Identify whether the following objects represent parallel lines, transversal lines, or both. • Window grills ( made of lines) • Spider webs • Bridge • Legs of the chair • highways

  2. Opening activity What can you say about line m and line n? m // n t m 1 2 n 3 4 The numbered angles and its adjacent & supplementary angles are all RIGHT ANGLES & therefore CONGRUENT. Describe the figure and the relationships that exist between the lines & angles. t  m, t  n

  3. What are parallel lines? Transversal line. A line that intersect two or more parallel lines at different points. m n t In the figure, if line m is parallel to line n, then what do you call line t? Lines that are coplanar but never intersect.

  4. k //b, d is a transversal Opening activity d k b Describe the figure and the relationships that exist between the lines.

  5. Opening activity t What relationship exist between the following pairs of angles. 1 & 2, 3 & 4 1 & 3, 4 & 2 5 & 7, 5 & 6 7 & 8, 6 & 8 1 m They are ADJACENT and SUPPLEMENTARY. 2 3 4 6 n 5 7 8

  6. Opening activity t What relationship exist between the following pairs of angles. 1 & 4, 3 & 2 5 & 8, 6 & 7 1 m 2 They are VERTICAL s and are CONGRUENT. 3 4 6 n 5 7 8

  7. PAIRS OF ANGLES FORMED BY PARALLEL LINES CUT BY A TRANSVERSAL

  8. MAIN ACTIVITY • Euclidian Geometry depends on the supposition that parallel lines exist. This activity investigates what happens to the measures of corresponding angles when two lines are cut by a transversal. The investigation continues by exploring angle relationships that are formed when two parallel are cut by a transversal.

  9. Main activity t In the figure, 3 , 4, 5, & 6 are called INTERIOR ANGLES m 4 3 6 n 5

  10. Main activity t In the figure, 1, 7, 2 ,& 8 are called EXTERIOR ANGLES 1 m 2 n 7 8

  11. Main activity t In the figure, 3 & 6 5, & 4 are called ALTERNATE INTERIOR ANGLES m 4 3 6 n 5

  12. Main activity t m DESCRIBE ALTERNATE INTERIOR ANGLES 4 3 6 n 5 - Two nonadjacent interior angles on the OPPOSITE side of a transversal.

  13. Main activity t In the figure, 1 & 8, 2 & 7 are called ALTERNATE EXTERIOR ANGLES 1 m 2 DESCRIBEALTERNATE EXTERIOR ANGLES n 7 8 • Two nonadjacent exterior angles on the OPPOSITE side of a transversal

  14. Main activity t In the figure, 3 & 5, 4 & 6 are called CO-INTERIOR ANGLES or SAME –SIDE INTERIOR ANGLES DESCRIBE CO-INTERIOR ANGLES or SAME –SIDE INTERIOR ANGLES 4 3 m 6 n 5 - Two nonadjacent interior angles on the same side of a transversal.

  15. Main activity t In the figure, 1 & 7, 2 & 8 are called CO-EXTERIOR ANGLES or SAME –SIDE EXTERIOR ANGLES 1 m 2 DESCRIBECO-EXTERIOR ANGLES or SAME –SIDE EXTERIOR ANGLES n 7 8 • Two nonadjacent exterior angles on the same side of a transversal

  16. Main activity t In the figure, 1 & 5, 3 & 7 2 & 6, 4 & 8 are called CORRESPONDING ANGLES 1 m 2 4 3 6 n 5 7 8 - Two nonadjacent angles on the same side of a transversal such that one is an EXTERIOR ANGLE and the other is an INTERIOR ANGLE.

  17. Exercises • Name two pairs of: • Consecutive angles • Alternate interior • angles. • 3. Alternate exterior • angles • 4. co- interior angles • 5. Co –exterior • angles In the figure, a // b, c is a transversal line a 8 1 5 2 b 4 7 6 3 c
