IPv6 Update • There are 4.3 billion IP (internet protocol) addresses on the Internet (and counting) • There are actually more devices needing addresses, than there are addresses to give • We need some elbow room
IPv6 Update • With the launch of IPv6, which assigns addresses in a new way, that number can grow — to 340 trillion, trillion. • DOE needed to make publicly accessible domains IPv6 compatible by Oct. 1st. • IPv6 came to our DOE servers quietly and no one noticed… Almost.

New OMB Rules Background: In June, OMB announced increased scrutiny of the public surveys to “eliminate unjustified regulatory requirements, including unjustified reporting and paperwork burdens, [as it] is a high priority of this Administration.”
New OMB Rules What this means for EERE: • Eliminate redundant or unnecessary surveys • Monitor number/type of surveys your program puts out • Increased scrutiny of need for surveys from WGT • Move to one EERE-wide survey each year to collect website satisfaction and user research data • Ask only critical questions that will provide actionable feedback • Keep surveys as short as possible • Keep open ended questions to a minimum (but use them strategically!) • Reduce frequency of collections • Scrutinize repeat surveys for frequency of deployment; reduce where possible • Maximize re-use of data that’s already been collected • Make survey results that are relevant to others available to them • In the future: post data sets on the usability collaboration portal
New OMB Rules Webinar feedback survey approved Geothermal approved to administer a feedback survey after webinars: • 3-5 questions (chosen from an approved bank of 9) • Only 1 open ended • Approved to run 10 per year

Communication Standards Tip We just posted a new page about Conferences! eere.energy.gov/communicationstandards/conference_websites.html First off, we’d love to hear your feedback. What needs to be added to this page? What is missing? What would you like to know?
Communication Standards Tip Secondly, I wanted to point out a few things: • The page currently only talks about posting “normal” conference sites—sites that are integrated into your existing EERE website, in the EERE template, as part of your site’s (or subsite’s) navigation. • It also talks about off-site registration pages. This is currently the rule, but it’s changing soon! Soon all sites will have to have DOE-hosted registration pages. More information will be posted when it’s available.
Communication Standards Tip But please send your suggestions about the content to: Elizabeth Spencer (elizabeth.spencer@nrel.gov) We’d love to make the content better and more useful for you!
Wrap Up • Next meeting: November 15
