  2. Background • Bison priscus was the first known bison , not long after it was replaced by the long-horned bison, Bison latifrons. B. latifrons was then replaced 18,000 years ago with Bison antiquus. • Bison antiquus died out 10,000 years ago and gave rise to the living species Bison bison. American Buffalo

  3. Living species • The living species of Bison is shorter and has smaller bones and horns than its ancestor Bison antiquus. • The common names are American bison, American Buffalo, and the scientific name Bison bison.

  4. Two subspecies • Bison bisonbison --- plains bison • Bison bisonathabascae --- wood bison

  5. Percent found at Boca Ceiga Millennium Park Over all 138 specimens were discovered

  6. What was found most • Bison teeth were the most common find at the Millennium park site. All bison have 32 teeth, with only size differences between the species Bison antiquus teeth
