  2. What is a Joint? Write a definition to explain what a joint is and give an example of a joint • The point of connection between two bones or elements of a skeleton • A joint is simply where two or more bones meet

  3. What are the 3 main types of joint? • Freely Moveable – Synovial • Slightly Moveable – Cartilaginous • Immoveable – Fibrous

  4. Synovial There a 6 types of Synovial joint: Worksheet 1. You have to link the type of Synovial joint to the example of each

  5. Cartilaginous This type of joint is only found in the Vertebral Column: These joints occur where the connection between the articulating bones is made up of Cartilage

  6. Fibrous This type of joint is held together by only a ligament: The Cranium

  7. Movement of joints Joints allow us to move our limbs in different ways List 6 ways in which limbs can move due to their type of joint

  8. Now place these movements into a Sporting Scenario For example Circumduction is present in the arm when delivering a cricket ball • Flexion • Extension • Adduction • Abduction • Rotation • Circumduction

  15. Flexibility is closely linked to Joints Flexibility is the range of motion available in a joint. Joints move in certain ways and are designed and situated for maximum effect – Your knee as a ball and socket!?!

  16. To finish There are two types of connective tissue, without them bones and muscles would not work, they are? • Ligaments – Attaches bone to bone (Cruciate, Medial) • Tendons – Attaches muscle to bone • ( Achilles)
