  6. 2013 Softball Calendar Saturday April 6, Week 40: Last date for district contests (all classes) Monday April 8, Week 41: Official entry list due (all classes) Saturday April 13, Week 41: Last date for regular season contests (all classes) April 15-19, Week 42: District Tournaments (all classes) Tuesday April 23, Week 43: Regional Quarter Finals (3A, 5A, 7A) Wednesday April 24, Week 43: Regional Quarter Finals (2A, 4A, 6A, 8A) Friday April 26, Week 43: Regional Semifinals (all classes) Tuesday April 30, Week 44: Regional Finals (all classes) May 8-11, Week 45: State Finals

  7. HEALTH and SAFETY REMINDERS • Parental Permission (Bylaw 11.7)—EL3 • Good for current school year only • Medical Consent Form (Bylaw 11.8)—EL2 • Good for 365 days as per Florida Statute • Both forms required before any participation in conditioning activities

  9. COACHES RESPONSIBILITIES • Bylaw 11 Overview (Eligibility) • EL10 Form should be submitted if a school representative has any questions (C2CSchools) • Game Contracts required for each regular season contest & tournament (C2CSchools)

  11. COACHES RESPONSIBILITIES Recruiting Officials—help us recruit for student-athletes to be the officials of the future Student Officials Program—any high school student 16 years of age or older may officiate middle school and junior high contests www.becomeanofficial.org

  12. UNSPORTING CONDUCT • Financial Penalties • Missed Contests • Officials Protocol • Pre-game conference with head coaches and team captains. • Disqualification Procedure • Notify both head coaches of ejection • Submitwritten conduct reportwithin 24 hours.

  13. UNSPORTING CONDUCT • Consequences for schools if players leave the bench area (or defensive position in baseball or softball) should an altercation occur • Penalties could include: • Participant(s) must miss contests • School penalized financially • School removed from the state series

  14. UNSPORTING CONDUCT • Public Criticism of Officials Forbidden • Coach don’t criticize officials • Officials don’t criticize coaches • NO Alcohol and Tobacco Products

SCHOOL’S RESPONSIBILITIES TO OFFICIALS • “Should” (common courtesies) • Secure dressing facility [Post-season MUST] • Provide private shower with hot water • Provide refreshments during halftime • MUSTS • Greet the officials upon arrival • Private, secure place to park • Provide security (pregame, halftime and postgame) • Provide location of principal or game admin. • Coaches must not enter officials dressing room • May lose privilege to host state series!

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY • Officials must contact the principal or his/her designee • The safety and welfare of all is of paramount importance • A suspended contest shall resume from the point of interruption per rules of the sport by both FHSAA and NFHS rules • If a suspended contest is resumed following a delay, teams should be given a reasonable amount of time to stretch and warm-up

Out of State/International Team Play • Must be members in good standing of association which regulate interscholastic athletics for schools within their state/country. • They must follow comparable eligibility guidelines • Age limits • GPA requirements • 3. The season for the sport involved must run concurrently with that of the Florida High School Athletic Association.  • Host school must provide the FHSAA the above information on official association letterhead. • 7.4- All international contest must be sanctioned through the NFHS.

  18. FHSAA Softball State Series Official Entry Lists Must Be Submitted via C2C Schools No later than Monday, April 8, 2013 to the District Tournament Manager. District Tournaments: April 15-19, 2013 Region Quarterfinals: Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24 3A, 5A, and 7A will play on Tuesday 2A, 4A, 6A, and 8A will play on Wednesday 1A schools do not have a “Region Quarterfinal” round Region Semifinals: Friday, April 26, 2013 Region Finals: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 FHSAA Finals: Wednesday, May 8 – Saturday, May 11 Times for all region contests must be 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. local time.

  19. FHSAA SoftballPoints of Emphasis & Rule Changes • All of the new Points of Emphasis & Rule Changes can be found on the FHSAA website. Go to the “Softball” page, then click on “FAQ” and then click on the link under the first question. • There are many new rule changes & points of emphasis, so be sure to read it carefully!
