  2. Setting should include: • What you can see • What you can hear • What you can smell i.e. You need to build up a complete picture for the reader and the best way to do that is by using the senses.

  3. What can we use symbolically? • The weather • The animals (or lack of them) • The buildings • Other objects in the scene • The plants • People

  4. How can we use setting? • To show the character belongs • To show the character is alienated • To reflect what is happening in their lives That means setting REFLECTS the character’s state of mind, relationships and emotions.

  10. Where should I be using this? • At the start of your story to build the mood and atmosphere and grab audience’s attention • At key points in the story and the character’s development • At the end to show how things are ended

  11. Why should I use this approach? • You are SHOWING not TELLING • You will use descriptive language and figurative devices • You will be working on a CONCEPTUAL level ALL THINGS MARKERS LOVE!
