  2. Syria was discovered in 1975. Syria is significant in the history of Christianity. Ancient Syria was conquered by Egypt in 1500 B.C and five more after countries after that. The population of Syria is 74% Sunni Muslim, with a 13% Shia and Alawite population, 10% non-Muslim Christian and 3% Druze minorities. Historical context!

  3. French occupation! • In 1920,King Faysal became the leader of Syria, but his rule over Syria ended after only a few months, following the clash between his Syrian Arab forces and regular French forces at the battle of Maysalun.

  4. Independence to 1970! • On April 17,1946 there was a rapid economic development followed the Declaration of Independence.

  9. It imposes restrictions on the freedom of their union and displacement • It also allows the arrest of suspects or people who threaten the security and the monitoring of communications • Has been in place for 48 years Emergency law of 1963

Protests have broken out with no sign of a peaceful end • More than 400 protesters have died or gone missing • U.S. urged Americans to leave the country immediately • U.S. also considering putting sanctions on Syria • United Nations is conducting an investigation Impact on the u.s.
