Advantages to the Club • The club gets to experience another culture through the student. • Gets the club name out in the community. • Potential new members • Improves the club’s relationship with the school. • Gives club members exposure to Rotary beyond the club. • Build good will and better friendships. • Promote peace one student at a time.

  3. Advantages to the Students • Get to experience living in another culture • Learn another language • Experience an American School System. • Make friends from around the world. • Build goodwill and better friendships. • Growth physically, mentally and emotionally.

  4. Types of Exchanges • Yearlong Inbound • Yearlong Outbound • Short Term / Summer Exchange

  5. Yearlong Inbound • District 7120 Club hosts a student from another District with which District 7120 has an exchange agreement with.

  6. Yearlong Inbound • District 7120 Club is responsible for: • Finding host parents • Registering the student in school • Monthly allowance of between $50 - $100 • Providing a Club Level Youth Exchange Officer

  7. Yearlong Inbound • District 7120 Club Responsibilities: • Provide a Club Level Youth Exchange Counselor of the same sex as the student. • Pay for the student to attend and provide transportation to the District Conference.

  8. Yearlong Inbound • Provide support for the student throughout the exchange year. • Welcome them into your meeting and events. • YEO and Counselor must be trained. • Background checks.

  9. Yearlong Inbound • Costs to the club: • Monthly allowance - $500 - $ 1,000 • District Conference - $350 • Meals when they visit your club - ? • Miscellaneous items which the club may choose to pay for ? • Plan in your budget for a line item of $1,500 to $2,500 depending on how much the club chooses to do for the student.

Yearlong Outbound • District 7120 Club Responsibilities: • Assist with the paperwork for the application process. • Interview the candidate to make sure that at the club level they feel that the student will make a good youth ambassador. • Fund the District Conference for the Student and provide transportation. • Provide a YEO and Club Counselor that are trained.

  11. Yearlong Outbound • Costs to the club: • District Conference registration fee $350 • Some club will help students that have a hard time affording the cost of the exchange. That is completely a club decision and not required.

  12. Yearlong Outbound • Applications are due October 15th. • Students must pass an interview at the club level prior to Interview Weekend. • Students must pass District Level interview process at Interview Weekend. • Students must attend all mandatory events.

  13. Yearlong Outbound • Cost to the Students: • 2013-2014 fee is $5,500 • Fee Includes: • Visa • Airfare • Insurance • Language Camps • Travel Agent Fees • Interview Weekend costs • Mandatory weekend costs

  14. Short Term / Summer Exchange • Often called STEP • District 7120 Club Responsibilities: • Assist with the application process. • Interview the student to make sure that the student will be a student ambassador. • Host family paperwork and inspections because the students family is required to be a host family in the short term program.

  15. Short Term Exchange • Costs to the club: None • Costs to the students: • Insurance - $189 • Airfare • Visa cost if any • Spending money
