  1. SOLUTIONS TO NOISE POLLUTION WELCOME

  2. Unlike Other Injuries, there is No Visible Evidence of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss [NIHL] It is not traumatic or usually even noticed when it occurs. Hearing impairment accumulates over time Its effects are realized long after the damage has been done. Worse, Noise-Induced Hearing Loss is Permanent and Irreversible. However, with Proper Education and Safety Measures NIHL is 100% PREVENTABLE

  3. What is noise? We often hear from people who have returned from shopping in the market that, there is a lot of noise pollution in the city. They often blame the two, three - and four wheelers besides commercial units for increasing ambient noise pollution. On a special day like festivals, marriage functions, birthday parties etc., we can hear loud speakers drilling the common man with severe noise pollution. Let us get familiar with some basic concepts pertaining to noise pollution and its control

  4. Noise can be defined as “Clamor” “Din” “Loud Outlay” Noise (Sound) is a physical disturbance that is capable of being detected by human ear. It is due to any manmadeIndustrial Activity, Commercial Industrial Activity, Domestic Activity or Natural Activity. Depending upon the noise levels and duration of exposures, various impacts on human beings can be enumerated.

  5. NOISE is an Unwanted Sound A Noise Problem generally consists of THREE inter-related elements- The Source The Transmission Path The Receiver

  6. The discrimination and differentiation between sound and noise depends upon the habit and interest of the person/species receiving it and the ambient conditions and impact of the sound generated during that particular duration of time. Noise may be: Continuous or Intermittent Noise may be: High Frequency or Low Frequency

  7. EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION Tiredness, Irritation and Impairs Brain Activities, Reduce Thinking and Working Abilities.Disturbances in Sleep PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS Speeding up pulse and Respiratory Rates. Impair Hearing- PermanentlyorTemporarilyHearing Damage. Heart Attacks, Hypertension, Deafness

  8. BEHAVIORAL EFFECTS Performance of School Going Children is Poor where Schools are in the Busy/ Traffic Prone Area Irritation,Learning Disabilities PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECT Annoyance, Tensions in Muscles, Nervous Irritability & Strain PERSONOLOGICAL EFFECTS Disturbance in Individual‘s Total Personality Make-up, Insomnia, Fatigue, Hypertension, Blood Pressure, Deafness

  9. Have you observed ?? Any change in your personal reactions like annoyance, tiredness, loss of concentration while executing your daily activities? Any noise polluting source in your surroundings? If so, for how much time, you are exposed to the noise levels? Any noise level measurements being taken at your surroundings?

  10. Air borne Noise Levels have been limited in different areas as per notification dated 26th" December-1989 under schedule-III by Ministry of Environment & Forests (MOEF) Govt. of IndiaNOISE POLLUTION STANDARD (Ministry of Environment & Forests (MOEF) Govt. of India) Note: Silence zone has been identified as area up to 100 m around Hospitals, Education Institutes, Courts etc. (*dB(A) Leq denotes the time weighted average of the level of sound in decibels on scale A which is relatable to human hearing. A "decibel" is a unit in which noise is measured. "A", in dB(A) Leq, denotes the frequency weighting in the measurement of noise and corresponds to frequency response characteristics of the human ear. Leq : It is an energy mean of the noise level, over a specified period.)

  11. International & National Legislations Noise limit levels vary from country to country. The ILO code of practice indicates that in the light of present knowledge, the following values may be recommended : Warning Limit Value : 85dB Danger Limit Value : 95dB Further it adds that No matter for how short a time, a worker should not enter an area where the noise level is115dBor more withoutAppropriate Ear Protection.

  12. Maximum Acceptable Levels of Sound Inside Buildings

  13. GUIDELINES SUGGESTED BY OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION (OSHA) FOR INDUSTRIAL NOISE EXPOSURE IN REGULAR USE

  14. Legislation On Noise In India Constitution of India :Right to Life Environment Protection Act Noise Pollution Control Rule 2000 under Environment Protection Act 1996

  15. INDUSTRIAL NOISE Industrial Noise is largely produced by the industrial machines. The survey recently conducted by the Oto – Rhino - Laryngology, Madras, revealed that Industrial Noise Pollutionhas damaged the hearing ability of nearly20% workers. The major noise sources are flow of oil, water and gas through pipes, valves etc. The noise levelclose to valvesis in between80 - 90 dBA. The noise levelclose 40 mts. from the flareis around 70 dBA. The general noise level ranges between 70 – 90 dBA

  16. CONTROL TECHNOLGIES AVAILABLE FOR NOISE POLLUTION To Isolate NOISE At Source: # The first and simple way to control the noise pollution is insulation # Department for the Maintenance should have a routine checkup to observe the noise generated by every machine of the plant and restrict to its original noise level by replacing bearings, tightening of all loose parts that can vibrate. # Machines should be placed on vibration isolators or mounts.

  17. NOISE Control in Path : In many cases, noise control at source is very difficult or quite uneconomic. In such cases, noise control is achieved in the path: (a) Putting major noise sources at one place & separating it from quieter area. (b) Using acoustic barriers, sound absorbing linings & sound insulating partitions. (c) Complete or partial enclosure of noisy equipment. (d) Providing silencers on the intake as well as exhaust side of flow machines, like, blowers, fans etc. (e) Insertion of damping material between machine bases and foundations and use of anti vibration mountings. (f) Damping vibration of the crucial parts through the use of the correct fabrication material.

  18. Noise Control at the Receiver End : Wherever it is not possible to reduce noise exposure to the permissible limit at the source or in the path, the workers exposed to high sounds should be provided with suitable Ear Protector. Receivers can protect himself by: Making use of # Acoustically Closed Cabin # Ear muffs, # Disposable Ear Plugs Or, CUSTOM MADE HEARING PROTECTION DEVICES

  19. Conclusion:- We have made the laws relating to noise pollution but there is need ofCreating General Awarenesstowards the hazardous effects of Noise Pollution. In our country the people generally lack consciousness of the ill effects which noise pollution creates and how the society including they themselves stand to beneficiary preventing generation and emission of noise pollution.

  20. Listen Up Electronics India Pvt Ltd. In collaboration with a team of industry experts, has opened a lab in Noida introducing State-of-the-Art Digital Technology - Precision Fit Process ToREPLACETraditional Custom Hearing Protection Device fabrication process. Precision fit process solution is based on 3D technologywhich uses a scanof theear impressionto create aDigital Image. A 3D modelling software is then used to design the Personalized Hearing Protection Device The software is also used to verify the fit & canal direction for optimum comfort, and best acoustic performance. A High-Definition, high quality 3D printer is then used to print ultra-thin layers ultimately creating the exact 3D structure which enables a digitally precise fabricated Custom Hearing Protection Device using our Proprietary Process.

  21. Listen Up Electronics India Pvt Ltd. In collaboration with a team of industry experts, have now designed and developed the following HEARING PROTECTION DEVICES * Sleep Plug ( Canal size ) * Dry Ear Plug * Motorbike Plugs * Solid Ear Plug without filter * Hearing Protection Device with filter (HPD) * Hearing Protection Device with ER filter * Swim Plugs

  22. CUSTOMISED EAR PLUGS – USES & STYLES Custom ear plugs are one of the Best Ways to protect our ears against damage due to noise exposure and water entry. These Ear Plugs are hypoallergenic, so can be used by people with sensitive skin and are available in Bright Colors for children or in discreet tones for adults. 26. Advantages of Custom Made Hearing Protection? ComfortOne of the problems that many people may face with disposable ear plugs is comfort. As they are a universal size, they can sometimes be too small or too big or don’t sit in the ears correctly. Because custom hearing protection is made from your own ears, you can be assured of the most comfortable fit. Sealing of the Ear CanalFoam ear plugs are Non – Hygienic as they are being used regularly and cannot be washed. For hearing protection to work effectively, an air-tight seal is required between the hearing protection and the ear canal. As custom protection is made from the shape of your own canals, a secure fit is ensured, providing much more effective protection against noise damage than the disposable type.

  27. Advantages of Custom Made Swim Plugs ? To prevent water from entering the ear canal, an Airtight Seal is required between the ear plug and the ear canal. A Good Fit is essential to ensure that water doesn’t leak into the canal. As custom swim plugs are made from the shape of your ears, a secure fit is ensured, providing the most effective protection against water entry.
