  2. GENERAL CARGO CARRIER The purpose she serves: • To carry packed cargo in boxes, crates or bags or coming in pieces (unpacked cargo items) Loading/discharging: - vessel’s derricks or shore-based cranes Feature(s) of design: • Derricks • Tweendecks • “open freighter”

  3. DRY BULK CARRIER The purpose she serves: • To carry dry bulk cargo (unpacked cargo of one commodity) Loading/discharging: - Cranes with grabs or pumps Feature(s) of design: • Holds are divided into compartments (stability) • Self-trimming holds (rolling circumstances, list)

  4. TANKER The purpose she serves: • To carry liquid cargo (crude oil, petroleum, edible oils, etc.). • Chemical tankers (chemicals) • LNG carriers (liquified natural gas) • LPG carrier (liquified petroleum gas) Loading/discharging: - Flexible pipes (in the offing) Feature(s) of design: • Double bottoms and hulls • Divided into compartments by bulkheads • Cofferdams (pump rooms)
