  4. Come to class prepared The future belongs to those who prepare for it today. -Malcolm X

  5. BEGINNING OF CLASS • There will always be a warm-up on the board for you to do INDEPENDENTLY. • It is called the YOLO (your own learning opportunity) • You must do it. • It starts the learning process and can sometimes be a practice question for an upcoming test or part of an activity for later.

  6. Read the directions and think about the task before you ask the teacher. Part of learning is trying to figure it out on your own first.

  7. If you don’t understand something, raise your hand and ask. It probably means that there is someone else with the same question. We want to have meaningful discussion. Therefore, we can not all talk at once. Raise your hand.

  8. TARDIES • If you have an issue with getting to my class on time, schedule to meet with me and we’ll figure it out. • TWO TARDIES: I contact your parents • THREE TARDIES: I issue Learning Lunch • If you come in late with a tardy slip, just leave it in the red bucket. Don’t interrupt me while I’m teaching. • ON TIME MEANS: SEATED IN YOUR DESK OR PREPARING FOR CLASS – NOT RUNNING AROUND THE CLASSROOM

  9. -I will give you 6 passes per 9 weeks. • Used to leave classroom for bathroom, to retrieve book or homework, etc. • If you don’t use a pass, it will be a “strike”. If you leave the classroom two times without a pass, I’ll notify your parents. Three times without a pass, you will be assigned a Learning Lunch.

  10. DON’T TOUCH OR USE MY STUFF WITHOUT GETTING MY PERMISSION!!

  11. ABSENT WORK • If you are absent, you are responsible for getting your work. • There is a file box on the back counter with a folder for each day of the month. I will put any handouts/work you missed in there for you. Just go pull it out. • If you have questions about absent work: You must ask me before or after school or during flex time. I will not have time to answer your questions during class. (You can also email me your questions).

  12. TURNING IN WORK Procrastination makes easy things hard, hard things harder. JUST DO IT!

  13. TURNING IN WORK • Most of the work we do in class you will need to use on a future assignment OR to study for an assessment. KEEP IT IN YOUR BINDER unless I tell you to turn it in or throw it away. • You are responsible for turning in all required work, even if it is late. If you do not have an assignment, fill out the LATE ASSIGNMENT FORM (located in the absent work bin) and put it in the IN drawer for your class period (back of room). THEN FINISH YOUR WORK AND TURN IT IN!

  14. TURNING IN LATE WORK • PUT IT IN THE “IN” DRAWER FOR YOUR CLASS PERIOD (back of the room) • YOU WILL RECEIVE A 10 POINT DEDUCTION FOR LATE WORK THAT IS A FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (i.e., home work, practice work) • YOU WILL RECEIVE A 5 POINT DEDUCTION FOR EACH DAY LATE FOR LATE WORK THAT IS A SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT (i.e., projects, essays, etc.) (a weekend = 10 points)

  15. Borrowing Supplies • I have a cup with pencils to borrow at the front of the classroom • You must leave something as collateral to borrow • DO NOT leave your shoe: I don’t like stinky feet smell • RETURN MY PENCIL AT THE END OF CLASS

  16. HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE? • EDMODO: Homework alerts, questions, feedback from your peers. • Let’s sign up now. • MY BLOG: www.elkadila.weebly.com • That is where I will post notes/hand-outs/power points/helpful links • EMAIL: elkadik@fultonschools.org ippolitoa@fultonschools.org

  17. HELP SESSIONS • Help sessions are every Tuesday and Friday at 8:15 am. • I will put a permanent pass in your agenda for those two days. • If you want to meet at another time, schedule with me and I’ll give you a pass. I also can sometimes stay after school. • For general questions, you can email me or post in edmodo. • I WILL MAKE MYSELF AVAILABLE TO HELP YOU. JUST ASK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. I teach bell to bell. This means that I will dismiss you at the bell, so don’t just get up and leave. Don’t worry, I won’t hold you after the bell.

  19. WHY ARE WE HERE? My goal is to teach each and every one of you the skills that you need so that when your opportunity comes along, you are prepared to take it. I looking forward to a great year of learning together.
