Simile • Simile-Comparison of two things using like or as. Ex:He smells like he dived into the cologne bottle.
hyperbole • Hyperbole-Exaggerating to show strong feeling or effect. • Ex:My brother is the devil
Alliteration • Alliteration-The repitition of the first constant sound • Ex: The dumb director didn’t do a good job making the movie.
Metaphor • Metaphor-Two things being compared without using like or as. • Ex:She has a stone heart.
Personifacation • Personification-Giving human traits to objects or ideas. • Ex:The sun danced as it rose up.
Onomatopiea • Onomatopiea-Words that represent the actual sound of something. • Ex:
Idioms • Idiom-Expressions that don’t exactly mean what they say. • Ex:The hail is as big as hailstones.
Understatement • Understatement-Expression with less strength expected. • Ex:This shot wont hurt a bit.
