  1. What Do The Master Gardeners Contribute to UC? Who Are the Master Gardeners? Master Gardeners are UC trained adult volunteers of the University of California Cooperative Extension who answer questions, diagnose plant problems, and give horticultural assistance via telephone, plant clinics, demonstrations, talks and in the media on all aspects of home gardening using University supported research. There are over 3,700 certified master gardeners in California. What Do The Master Gardeners Do? • Educate home gardeners and promote environmentally sustainable horticultural practices. • Extend research based information and knowledge to the general public • Assist advisors in conducting research • In 2007 master gardeners contributed over 206,000 volunteer hours UCCE valued at more than $4 million. • In 2007 gave more than 270 garden related presentations and events to the public • Answered about a million home gardening questions.
