  1. World War II By K.C. Springer

  2. Atlantic part of the war • The Atlantic war for us was Europe, Germany, and everything in between! This section shows pictures and text of each country’s main fighter plane.

  3. German Messerschmitt BF 109 • This plane was Germany’s main fighter/ interceptor plane.

  4. The P-51D Mustang • This plane was America’s main escort for bombers going deep into Germany.

  5. Supermarine Spitfire • This was Europe’s main fighter/interceptor.

  6. The Pacific part of the War • The Pacific part of the war for us was against Japan, their navy and air force.

  7. The A6M3 Zero • This main plane of the Japanese was lighter and smaller than most U.S. fighters but the engine was smaller than ours.

  8. Vought F4U Corsair • This plane was considered the best fighter of the pacific. It was flown by Boyington.

  9. F6F Hellcat • This plane was carrier based and the first plane to take on the Zero.

  10. F8F Bearcat • This plane was the hotrod! It was literally a flying gas tank.

  11. These were the aces of WWII of America and Germany • These three aces had near 30,40 and 327 enemy kills. The two American aces had near 20 and 30 victories. The German had 327. He had more because he saw battle in WWI.

  12. Maj. Gregory “Pappy” Boyington • This was the ace that had 30 victories. He fought in the Pacific War against the Japanese. He commanded the legendary squadron “Black Sheep.” Here is the plane he flew.

  13. Lt. “Bud” Anderson • This man fought in the Atlantic war against the Germans. He commanded only a group of four P-51D mustangs. He had near 20 enemy victories. This is his plane.

  14. Erich Hartmann • This was a good pilot! 327 victories of Russian, English, and American aircraft. His way of see-decide-attack-break carried him all the way there! Here is his plane.

  15. Conclusion • There were many planes and many aces to fly them. The Germans had the ME-109 and Erich Hartmann. We had the F4U Corsair and Pappy Boyington. In every way, it was a pretty fair war.
