  2. Simile The boy was blue as a blueberry. Two thing compared using like or as

  3. Metaphor The fat man is a house. Two things compared with out using like or as.

  4. Personification Flowers grabbed my legs as I walked threw the grass. Giving human traits to objects or ideas.

  5. Onomatopoeia The water dripped from the plants leaves. Appeal to the sense of sound.

  6. Hyperbole I had a zillion of work sheets for homework. Exaggerating to show strong feeling or effect.

  7. Alliteration Captain cat combed his curly curls. Repetition of the first consonant sound in words.

  8. Idioms It’s raining cats and dogs outside. Expressions that don’t mean what exactly what they say.

  9. Understatement This won’t hurt a bit. Expression with less strength than expected.
