  2. Welcome to

  3. Making the Break with Mom Week 6 • Mothers and Sons • Further Clarification Definition: An unhealthy emotional intimacy with mother, not purposefully inflicted that stunts or inhibits a healthy masculine identity for a son

  4. Two significant breaks between mother and son • Physical bondedness and postpartum blues • Emotional bondedness and post-power blues • Jesus and His mom • Luke 2:43-50

  5. John 2:1-4 • Matthew 12:46-50 • John 19:23-27 • Two Wrong Responses to the Wound • Passive • Overly dominant

  6. Suggestions for Healing the Wound Need a new design – a form of manly leadership that is neither dominant nor abusive, but noble to men and endearing to women • Begin with a clear understanding of who you are accountable to • Begin to use the sword of the Spirit • Get encouragement and support from other men

  7. If married and you’ve decided this is an issue, tell your wife YOU will take responsibility for addressing it • Ask for your wife’s support in prayer – not her involvement • Ask, “What is God calling me to be at home?”

  8. Questions For Your Small Group • What insights have you gained about yourself and/or others in this discussion of the mother wound? Explain • Do you suffer from this wound? What steps from this session could you employ to begin to address it right now? • How could the other men in the group be of help to you?

  9. See you TuesdayDon’t forget breakfast!
