  2. Project Your assignment is to create a visual presentation on the factors that influence immigration policies in Canada.

  3. You will need to include information on: • How immigrants are chosen to come to Canada • What factors and issues influence immigration? • Economics – need for workers, labor force growth, declining population • Aboriginal and French concerns – Aboriginal perspective, Canada-Quebec Accord • Health factors • Security factors • Pros and Cons of Immigration: • How does Canada benefit from immigration? • What are some ways immigration may NOT be beneficial for Canada? • What is your opinion on immigration policies in Canada?

  4. Canada – Quebec Accord he Canada-Quebec Accord is a legal agreement concerning immigration issues between the federal government of Canada and the Province of Quebec. The broad accord signed in 1991 preceded similar agreements with other provinces including British Columbia and Manitoba. The arrangement gives Quebec the exclusive responsibility of choosing immigrants and refugees still living in their own countries but wishing to relocate to the province. Selected applicants are issued a “certificat de sélection du Québec”. Citizenship and Immigration Canada issues the actual visa after background and health verifications. The provinces also have agreements with the federal government in that they can nominate individuals for immigration purposes, similar to the way Quebec does.

  5. Canada – Quebec Accord TheCanada-Quebec Accord is a legal agreement concerning immigration issues between the federal government of Canada and the Province of Quebec.

  6. Health Factors • Every potential economic immigrant to Canada must provide proof that they are in good health. A person may be refused entry to Canada if: • Their health could put the health of Canadians at risk — for example, they have tuberculosis. • They have a condition that could endanger public safety — for example, a mental disorder.

  7. Pros and Cons of Immigration I think immigration is both beneficial and not beneficial for Canada for many reasons Overall I think Canada’s immigration policies are good but I would change some of them
