  3. Media Partners • Broad use of communications technology puts media at the scene • Every day brings examples of media helping in a unique way during a response

  6. What Are the Media? • Identify types of media, their needs, and their audiences • Define terms commonly used by the media • Discuss the role the media plays in emergency management Unit III Objectives

  7. Media Assistance • The media helps to: • Reduce public panic • Prepare the public for action • Alert/warn the public about what may follow • The media are your most direct channel to your mass audience

  10. Working with the Media Each medium has specific expectations: Television - access to the “action visual” Radio - immediate audio or an interview Newspaper reporters - more detail and background information
