Rugby Backwards Pass • Purpose: • To evaluate students ability to make a backwards pass • Instructions: • Each student will be evaluated on the correct form of a backwards pass • Equipment: (for 20 students) • 1 ball per 2 students (15 total) • 30 turtle cones (2 per 2 students) • 2 courts labeled (1 for test, 1 for practice) • 1 scoring sheet per student

  3. Evaluation- Passing Process • Three attempts, 2 passes per attempt • Graded on one pass from each attempt • The best pass will be the graded • Must perform all 6 parts of the process • The six criteria are worth 3.9 points each

Evaluation-Passing Process 6 criteria Eyes on target Draws the ball back across one hip, keeping elbows slightly bent  Release the ball with a flick of the wrists and fingers • Feet shoulder width apart • Hold the ball in two hands with your fingers spread across the seam • Thumbs pointing up on ball

  6. Evaluation-Product Process • Pass the ball backwards towards the person beside a cone. • Three attempts with two passes per attempt • A successful attempt is a pass being between your partner’s knees and shoulders. • Each successful pass is worth 5 points

  14. Problems • Level of difficulty • The grades show the test was too easy • Equipment • We had adequate equipment for people testing and practicing • Organization • We had max ALT, everyone was participating • Comprehension • Instructions were on grading sheet to read over before being tested

  15. Changes • Difficulty • Maybe test a more specific skill • Harder skill test • Factor in age level of people being tested
