  4. Reminders • Move to a timetabled seminar/workshop if you are in a holding class (SEM0 or WSP0) • Pre-requisites: must be passed at 40% or more (not by a compensated fail) • Co-requisites: you must take these courses as well • Deadline for choosing courses 5 October 2012

  5. Management specialism • Any changes must be made by 5th October • Must have (at least) 40 credits at level 2 and have chosen (at least) 60 credits at level 3 • Specialism details are available on the Online Undergraduate Handbook

  10. Attendance and engagement As a student I will: Attend, and prepare for, all my scheduled teaching sessions and other learning events, such as induction and meetings with academic advisors. (University of Manchester Student Charter, 2012)

Attendance and engagement • Seminar and workshop attendance will be monitored • Spot checks may be carried out in lectures • Students can be prevented from taking exams on the basis of poor attendance • If you are absent, make sure you complete an absence from class form • If you experience mitigating circumstances you must inform the Assessment and Student Support Office (D14), complete the necessary paperwork and provide evidence

Feedback Feedback comes in many forms. • Informal advice and discussion during a lecture, seminar, workshop or lab • Online exercises and quizzes delivered through the course Blackboard space • Responses to your emails and questions from a member of staff, including feedback provided to a group via an online discussion forum • Specific course related feedback sessions • Written and/or verbal comments on assessed or non assessed coursework • Written and/or verbal comments after you have given a group or individual presentation • Generic feedback posted on Blackboard regarding overall examination performance • Group and individual discussions/meetings with your Academic Advisor • Discussions and meetings with your Programme Director To get meaningful feedback you must engage in your education.

  13. Office hours • Office hours are times when academic staff are available to meet students • Please make use of this opportunity • Academic staff should display their office hours on their door

  14. Academic malpractice The University regards plagiarism and other forms of academic malpractice, such as collusion and fabrication or falsification of results, as serious academic offences. Further information about avoiding academic malpractice is available from The Online Undergraduate Handbook. Don’t cheat. It’s not worth it

  21. Details • Teams of 4 students (MBS final year, any course) • Apply as an individual – we will sort the teams out • Compete against students from the world’s premier business schools • CV and cover letter to Viv Browne by 12pm on Monday 1st October 2012 • Send to: vivien.browne@mbs.ac.uk

Selection • Monday 1 October – CV and covering letter to be e-mailed to Viv Browne by 12.00 pm • Tuesday 2 October – Shortlisted students who will go forward for selection process will be advised • Wednesday 3 October (B8 MBSE) – 1:00pm – 6.00pm Student Selection Process will take place • Wednesday 10 October onwards – formal training sessions will commence

  23. Selection criteria • Course grades to date • Initiative • Aptitude • Communication and presentation skills • Ability to work in a group • Leadership/ambassador role • Organisational skills Please note that students must have a valid passport/visa for travel to USA/Canada/Serbia
