  1. Timing Drill--Clears • Goal: teach basic clear techniques and timing of cuts • 2 sets of 4 players (1st-attack, 2nd-middie, 3rd-middie/backer, 4th-backer) line up behind goal • On the “clear” call, 1st runs the field, 2nd does a “C” cut at midfield, 3rd makes an “L” cut at restraining line, and the 4th executes a hook cut. Their runs up the field are on the “hash marks” and the cuts end up in the “numbers” • The 4 players work the ball up their half of the field with one exception—the attacker makes a final cut and receives the last pass from the other line • Set up small goals so attackers shoot to finish the drill • Emphasis: timing—if you make your cut and then run for three strides or more before receiving the pass, the cut is no good in a game situation.
