  1. Towards CBM STS Ladder Prototype Yuri Murin for the CBM STS Consortium JINR-SINP-KRI-SPbSU-SESRITIIE-BTI-(IHEP)-GSI

  2. Double-Deck Analog Cables Ladder Support Hybrids (Read out electronics) Multi-Sensors Sensors Holders The Goal of the Project for 2008-2010 To build and test a prototype(s) of the basic element of the CBM STS – the CBM STS Ladder

  3. Potential Risks • Wrong choice of Sensor Type - radiation hardness • Readout with long ultra-thin analogue cables – low production yield • Wrong choice of cooling scheme – should be exactly fitting the real demands • Possibility for Assembling failure CURE: early prototyping of critical elements

  4. Guiding Idea "We are not in the position to do the technology choices now. We have to define however clearly what prototypes have to be build, e.g. one ambitious high-risk design, and a second, more conservative backup design. Key factor will in the end be whether the modules can be produced with reasonable yield." Walter F.J. Mueller 24/02/2008

  5. 2008 Tasks and their sharing • Technical design and production of CF support and cooling elements @SPbSU & KRI • Establishing DSSDs production line @ SINP & ELMA • Development of n-irradiation site @KRI 20 MeV cyclotron • Upgrading prototypes testing bench with collimated Ru-106 betas @ JINR • Organizing the in-beam testing site @ Protvino • Development of microcables prototypes @ Kharkov • Development of assembling site @ Russia (Protvino or Dubna) • Networking @ JINR or ITEP

  6. Available budget and solid promises for 2008 • A 2008 part of the 300K 3- year ISTC Project of KRI-SINP started at 01/02/2008 • 12K Eu of BMBF input to JINR (a solid promise) • 600K roubles from ITEP (a solid promise) (1€≈35 Rb)

  7. Technical design and production of CF support and cooling elements @SPbSU & KRI ( S.N. Igolkin) URGENT NEED: Detailed specifications on the geometrical layout of sensors with detailed description heat load sources for design and ANSI calculations

  8. Establishing DSSDs production line @ SINP & ELMA( M.M. Merkin) URGENT NEED: A box (10 pcs) of TOPSIL 4 inch Si wafers polished from both sides for starting production cycle at ELMA right away

  9. Development of n-irradiation testing site @KRI 20 MeV cyclotron ( L.M.Solin) Suggestions: 1. increase the number of activation foils 2.to put a pad testing baby on the Si wafer in next releases 9Be + p 4He + 5Li + n – 3.5 MeV 8Be + p + n – 1.7 MeV  2 4He + p + n – 1.6 MeV

  10. Building Prototypes testing bench with Ru-106 betas @ JINR ( P.V. Nomokonov) Current Activity: upgrading e.g.transition to MIDAS (PSI-TRIUMP) DAQ to be used for the in-beam tests later this year URGENT NEED: n-XITER FEE electronics and CIS baby sensors mounted on PCB with ERNI connectors (a task to Kharkov)

  11. Organizing the in-beam testing site @ ProtvinoY.A. Murin negotiating with SVD-2 Collaboration (P.F. Ermolov) and IHEP management SVD-2 setup at IHEP/ 50 GeV protons with intensity up to 2×106/ spill URGENT NEED: to organize Consortium Meeting in JINR or ITEP in June 2008

  12. Development of microcables prototypes @ Kharkov ( V.N. Borshchov ) "Critical cell" definition is to be agreed

  13. Development of assembling site @ Russia (Protvino or Dubna)( Yu.Murin & J.Heuser) The Second Step: visiting existing ALICE assembling sites at Strassburg (J.Lutz) and/or Utrecht ( G.Nooren) Networking @ JINR or ITEP Yu.Murin URGENT NEED: organize Consortium Meeting in JINR or ITEP in June 2008
