  4. Physical Science Students don’t have to memorize all the elements, however, they will learn 60% of the table • Chemical Bonding • valence electrons • ionic vs covalent bonding • Chemical Reactions • chemical formulas • balancing equations • endothermic vs exothermic reactions

  5. Problem Based Learning– Is nuclear energy a friend or foe? - research paper - group powerpoint - class debate Plate Tectonics -5 layers of the earth, Pangea and types of boundaries Earthquakes and Volcanoes - causes, 3 types of volcanoes, and the effects of eruptions

  8. Expectations for Science Fair Independent project completed at home Major assessment -45% of grade Parts of project are due almost every Friday (SFB) Students are chosen to compete in IJAS Regional Fair

  9. Support for Science Fair • Co-teaching with technology teacher • Advisory period • Instructional time • Computer labs and/or tablets will be utilized 5-6 times • EBSCO data base training • Research skills • Chunked deadlines • Rubrics

Integrating Technology with Science Fair • Aug. 29 and Sept 2: Co-teaching with technology teacher and tablets • Research project ideas w/ sciencebuddies.org • Create safety brochure • Sept. 23: Learning Center • EBSCO database presentation and research • Sept. 26: Co-teaching with technology teacher and tablets • Research major aspects of project • Create bibliography using Word • Insert citations for important facts • Oct. 1, 3, and 20th: Co-teaching with technology teacher and tablets • Research major aspects of project • Type and edit using Word • Register on Turnitin.com

Integrating Technology with Science Fair • Nov. 3: Co-teaching with technology teacher and tablets • Using Excel create data table and graphs • Using Excel calculate standard deviation • Nov. 10: Co-teaching with technology teacher and tablets • Make corrections for all SFB components • Edit and type final paper
