  5. Both the North Island and South Island are full with different histories, cultures, people landscapes and scenery… But what makes Aotearoa NZ such a great place to live? And what makes it home for us? To begin, Aotearoa NZ is made up of two islands. The North Island, also known as Te Ika-a-Māui or The great fish of Māui.   7. What makes Aotearoa NZ such a great place live? This is lake Taupō in the North Island. It is the largest lake in Aotearoa NZ measuring 193km in perimeter and was created by a super-volcanic eruption that happened more than 26, 000 years ago!!   8. What makes Aotearoa NZ such a great place live? Aotearoa NZ is filled with different kinds of beaches. Some beaches have black sand, gold coloured sand and white sand. There are many Māori and English names given to towns, cities, mountains, rivers and harbours in Aotearoa NZ, all with rich history and heritage. Maybe its learning about or experiencing Māori culture through Te reo (Māori language), Haka (dance), Waiata (song)and ToiMāori (Māori art/craft). Is a place of festivals, museums, different theme parks, wildlife parks, national parks and native plants and animals. Is home to Māori and Māori culture.
