  2. The Musical Alphabet • The musical alphabet is the foundation of music • Just like the regular alphabet, the musical alphabet puts the letters ( or notes) into a specific pattern to form music • The musical alphabet is: • CDEFGABC

  3. C D E F G A B C • The musical alphabet is also the C major scale • A scale is a series of 8 notes ( or an octave) that is the foundation of music • All music is based on scales • Scales are the building blocks of music. • Without scales there would be no music

  4. Clefs • The musical alphabet is how musicians read music • Just like the regular alphabet helps students read books • The musical alphabet helps musicians read music. Instead of books musicians use Clefs • There is the Treble Clef and the Bass Clef

  5. The Treble Clef • All instruments that are high voiced like the trumpet, clarinet, flute, oboe, and saxophones play in the treble Clef • The Treble Clef is also called the G Clef

  6. Bass Clef • The Low voiced instruments like the Tuba, Trombone, baritone, Cello, Double bass play in the Bass Clef • The bass Clef is also called the F Clef

  7. Memory Cue for Treble Clef • Here is an easy way to remember the location of the notes on the Clefs • For lines on the treble Clef it is: • Every Good Boy Does Fine • Or E G B D F • For the Spaces it is: • Space rhymes with FACE
