  1. Chapter 10:Area Section 10-4: Perimeters and Areas of Similar Figures

  2. Objective: • To find the perimeters and areas of similar figures.

  3. Theorem 10-7:“Perimeters and Areas of Similar Figures” • If the similarity ratio of two similar figures is a:b, then: • The ratio of their perimeters is a:b • The ratio of their areas is a2:b2

  4. Finding Ratios in Similar Figures • The two trapezoids are similar. • Find the ratio of their perimeters. • Find the ratio of their areas. 9 6

  5. Finding Areas UsingSimilar Figures • The area of the larger pentagon is 27.5 cm2. Find the area of the smaller pentagon. 4 10

  6. Finding Areas UsingSimilar Figures • The corresponding sides of two similar parallelograms are 3 and 4. The area of the larger parallelogram is 96 in2. Find the area of the smaller parallelogram.

  7. Community Service Example • During the summer, a group of high school students used a plot of city land and harvested 13 bushels of vegetables that they gave to a food pantry. Their project was so successful that the next summer, the city will let them use a larger, similar plot of land. In the new plot, each dimension is 2.5 times the corresponding dimension of the original plot. How many bushels can they expect to harvest next year?

  8. Finding Similarity and Perimeter Ratios • The areas of two similar triangles are 50 cm2 and 96 cm2. What is the similarity ratio and the ratio of their perimeters?
